Limited Seating Available for Parenting in SPACE: Now An International Conference

March 30th, 2015

Parents from across the United States and Canada will be gathering in Northbrook, Illinois to connect, learn and laugh at the Parenting in SPACE conference April 24-26, 2015. The Parenting in SPACE conference helps individuals and couples, many of whom have adopted their children, to become therapeutic parents and learn additional ways to heal their children with trauma-sensitive, attachment-focused strategies and interventions.

Parenting traumatized children and those with attachment disorders is challenging – it often feels like a lonely journey into the “final frontier” that leaves parenting feeling isolated and shame-filled. One former attendee said, “I really liked connecting with other parents who faced similar challenges and the validation they offered. And I loved finding my laugh again!”

Parenting in SPACE 2015, which is the fifth annual conference, provides guidance on therapeutic parenting in a relaxed, rejuvenating environment. “I love that presenters are both professionals and parents because it models the importance of creating a parent/professional team for the healing of our kids,” said another former participant. “It dared us to move away from the ineffective ‘traditional’ parenting techniques we were using. I learned new strategies, and ways to cope and heal.”

“It’s been such a moving experience watching parents transform each year within the conference,” said Billy Kaplan, President & Clinical Director of House Calls Counseling. “At the start of it, many of them initially express anger, isolation and fear for their children’s future. They leave feeling hopeful, connected and confident with new ways to think about their kids’ challenging behaviors, and new ways to interact with their kids to more successfully help them manage those behaviors.” Kaplan is also co-producer of the educational DVD “Chaos to Healing: Therapeutic Parenting 101.”

Parenting in SPACE is presented by House Calls Counseling, the premier provider of in-home, attachment-focused, trauma-sensitive psychotherapy in Chicagoland. The conference is sponsored by The Attachment Trauma Network, Sandhill Child Development Center, and CALO.
